About Magic
Q: What is Magic?
Magic is the science of first understanding and then using to our benefit the principles that govern this Universe. Everything in this Universe is comprised of a mixture of the four elements air, fire, water and earth. The study of magic is the study of these elements - their characteristics, their behaviors, the parts of the Universe that they govern, and their interaction with each other. Understanding and directly working with these elements allows us to understand anything in the Universe. When we understand something at such a precise level, we can create it. In short, Magic teaches us to understand and creating anything we choose in this Universe.
Have you ever wanted to create or have or change something in your life? The study of magic is a precision science that allows you to create, have or change anything in your life - so long as you understand it in terms of the four elements. Learning how to create anything with Magic is like learning how to bake a cake. To bake a tasty cake, you need to know the ingredients that go into the cake, the quantities and proportions of each ingredient, the order in which to mix the ingredients (some ingredients don't mix well with others) and the specific processes, such as flouring the bottom of the pan or setting the oven to a certain temperature.
In Magic, instead of studying the ingredients and processes that go into baking a cake, we study the ingredients that go into, for instance:
- Creating a headache or illness
- Bringing clients to our business
- Creating harmonious relationships
- Attracting dollars and abundance into our lives
- Developing feelings of joy or passion
- Manifesting physical things, such as
cars or homes
If what we are studying doesn't please us, a headache, for example, we then study the ingredients to change the situation.
While the word "Magic" may seem fanciful or bring up images of white rabbits and black hats, the study of Magic in this school is a precision science. The techniques taught in this school are verifiable, repeatable and precise. Unlike the many forms of "soft" magic that require you to be in a good place, the science of Magic is reliable whether you are in a good place or not. In fact, Magic is very effective at shifting you out of a negative state and into a positive one.
Q: I've heard of other magical orders like Wicca and Druidism. How does what you teach compare to these?
There are many different forms of magical practice in existence, and many have originated from the same source. Much of what we teach is tribal knowledge that has been in existence for millions of years, and is the birthright of every planetary citizen. In more recent times, this knowledge is most closely aligned with the Order of the Golden Dawn, of which well-known magicians such as Crowley and Waite were members, and from which many current magical practices spring.
Q: Does Magic really work?
Magic is a precision science that is highly effective and reliable. A deep belief in Magic is not a requirement. So long as the procedures are done in the exact way they are taught, they will be effective (altered procedures produce altered results). Q: Is Magic safe? How do I know this isn't evil or black magic?
Magic is neither black nor white, good nor evil. It is a scientific understanding of the Universe. So long as you understand and use the procedures in the way they are given, magic is safe. As teachers we ensure that students are given a safe environment in which to learn and practice their skills. More importantly, every part of the school and all materials taught are subject to Rules of the Road - the Universal laws that govern not just our magical practice, but life itself. They are in operation whether you know them or not, and our first task as teachers is to familiarize you with them. So long as you practice Magic within Rules of the Road, no harm will come from the use of these techniques.
Q: How does Magic relate to modern religion?
Magic is at the foundation of all religious practice - all of the rituals found in modern religions have their roots in Magic. In prior times, the shaman, magician or medicine man was the creator of religious rituals. Today, priests can perform those rituals but only magicians can create new ones. In addition, you will find many parallels between religious doctrines and Rules of the Road. For instance, compare the Golden Rule with this Rule of the Road: Whatever is done to the environment or to other beings in the environment for whatever reason brings similar effect to the doer, whether she or he is trained or not.
Q: How long before I can do spells?
At the end of the 30-week Basic Magic course you will be able to do simple candle and simulacra spells. Further spell work is taught in the next course, the Sonics, Spell Work, and Tarot Intensive. Keep in mind that Basic Magic is a survey course, so while you will know the proper procedures for spell work and other magical work, you will need to practice on your own to deepen your understanding and make the knowledge your own.
Q: How powerful is magic?
Magic is as powerful as the belief of the practitioner. When we can learn to let go of our belief systems long enough to allow new concepts into our life we start to realize there is a lot more to living in this time and place than we realized. There is a saying, “I’ll believe it when I see it.” We here at the Esoteric School prefer the other way, “I’ll see it when I believe it!”
Q: Can magic hurt me?
Magic won’t hurt you; you will hurt you if you are careless. Just about anything we do can harm us if we are careless. In this world, when learning something new, it is suggested that we follow the directions outlined. The most important set of rules for magic is Rules of the Road.
Q: Can magic enhance my life?

Q: How does Magic relate to traditional religious teachings; can a student of traditional religions benefit from your classes?
People from diverse religious teachings purchase materials from us and attend our classes and are able to use our materials. Our intention is to offer materials that are practical and useful to people of multiple faiths. We accept students of all faiths and religions. In our experience, magic is found throughout the Bible and other religious texts -- walking on water, fishes and loaves, miraculous healings. These are all called miracles and they are also called magic. It is up to you to decide whether magic can be integrated into your spiritual practice.

About the Esoteric School
Q: What will I learn in your school?
The most fundamental, beginner-level course we teach is called Basic Magic. In Basic Magic, we learn to work with the four elements of air, fire, water and earth directly (with our hands) and with tools (wand, athame, chalice and plate). We also learn to use the elements sonically, or with sound. In each of these practices, we learn to wield to four elements to:
- Balance our own energies
- Balance the energies of others
- Permanently change our beliefs
- Self-defense
- Healing self and others
- Divination (finding hidden information or seeing possible futures)
- Psychic communication
- Create sacred space
- Finding lost objects or people
In the last 10 weeks we also learn how to read the tarot and create and use safe, effective spells. Spells can be used to attract money, manifest jobs, deepen relationships, or achieve any number of aims or goals. We use the tarot to find out whether a spell is needed and appropriate, and whether a proposed spell will be effective. To find out more about the Basic Magic course, click HERE.
Q: Why should I choose the Esoteric School over some other magic school?
After giving considerable thought to this question only one thing comes to mind: You have searched and found us. You might have searched and found many types of schools in this field. If you find our course descriptions interesting and you have received adequate customer service regarding any questions you have about that course work and you still can’t make up your mind, please come to one of our classes as a guest.
The Rules of the Road are the regulations we suggest. Learning by experience is the way we teach. Plus, the bonus of no tests!
Q: Where is the physical location of the school?
We do not have a physical campus. Our classes are taught by teleconference and via home study. We offer class two days of the week and an hour long lab once a week. Our primary intent for teleconference courses was to reach more students at a reasonable cost to them.
Q: Does the Esoteric School teach visualization?
Through the course work our students learn about visualization. As with most things learning is a process. Our instructor has a knack for guiding the students to realization of their own strengths and talents. Visualization is part of what got you here, looking at this website. Somewhere, inside, you know there is more to this earth walk than meets the eye and you have consented to investigate what that might be. Welcome.
Q: Does the Esoteric School offer Vision Quests?
We feel that commitment to the course work over an extended period of time gives our students alternative ways to not only seek their visions, but to have more knowledge about what that vision might be. Through extensive work in the advanced courses students learn out of body travel, wearing archetypes of other entities and trusting what they have experienced thereby offering them a plethora of options.
Q: Does the Esoteric School offer shape shifting classes?
The advanced Shamanism course teaches students how to wear different shapes however, you will not be looking like a cat or frog or dog.

Q: What courses do you teach?
We offer a variety of courses. Click below to explore our home study courses.
Q: How can I possibly learn this material via teleconference or online?
The magical procedures we teach are very precise and easy to communicate via teleconference or online. In addition, we provide you with a detailed textbook, workbook, and instructional video to support the class material. We also assign a tutor to assist you one-on-one to ensure that you understand the material. Finally, every class has an online email chat where questions, comments and observations can be posted. We also encourage students to work with other students, so that you, as a student, are well supported by your peers as well as your teachers.
Q: What types of classes do you offer?
There are two basic types of classes you can take from The Esoteric School.
The Home Study courses come in a Compact Disk (CD) format that contains all the educational materials you will need to complete that course on your own at your own pace and schedule. There may be a few inexpensive items that will need to be purchased separately for some of the courses. For example with "The Tarot Course" you will need to purchase a Tarot Deck, for "The Basic Magic Class" you will make your own Wand from a piece of wood that you find but will need to acquire an Athame or knife and a Sun Yellow candle is a good idea for all of the classes.
Classes are also offered in a teleconference format. Teleconference classes are scheduled for a specific number of weeks and done as a group by calling in to the number provided upon registration. All educational materials for the class will be Emailed, mailed or accessed through a student participation web page for that class. This page also has links to audio files of recordings of the weekly classes for you to listen to at any time. You call in once a week for two hours to receive instruction from the teacher and participate with other students. A one hour Lab time can also be accessed each week for more individualized instruction. These classes also have an email chat group for interaction with other students. If you are interested in a teleconference course that is not currently being offered, please join our waiting list.
Q: Which class is right for me?
In answering this question consider what type of commitment you are willing to make. If you like the idea of having an actual instructor and the opportunity to interact with other Esoteric students you will need to commit to the weekly classes as well as doing homework in between. If this is a reasonable commitment the teleconference courses may be right for you. If your schedule is such that class participation will not work than the home study option may be a better choice. Ultimately you will be making the call.
Q: How much interaction can I expect with the instructor?
The teleconference classes are two hour classes weekly and one hour in lab. During these times there is total interaction with the instructor as well as listening to others in the class. In addition any student may set up an appointment by emailing or calling the school for additional tutoring time. Our instructors are very committed to those who are pursuing this knowledge. The Home study courses are self study classes that do not have access to an instructor. A Home student may email the school staff if they need assistance.
Q: What is multimedia format?
This format is mailed to you on a Compact Disk (CD) that will need to be played on your computer with your CD Rom. Most classes have a text book or class notes and practice exercises in a PDF format you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to open. It also may contain an audio file and/or video files that need to be accessed through an MP3 compatible player such as Windows Media Player. Check your course description to see what specific files or materials come with this class.
Q: How often are classes available?
There is no set schedule of availability for teleconference classes. Specific classes are planned according to interest and scheduled at such time as number of minimum students for that class express interest. If you are interested in a class that is not currently scheduled please join our waiting list.
Q: Are mentors available if I’m in class?
Yes, we offer mentor support for all students in our ongoing teleclasses. We usually have students repeating the course work that are happy to mentor new students. In our experience, when a new student hooks up with an experienced practitioner the accomplishments are more intense and understanding of concepts are more complete. We also offer a one-hour lab once a week for each teleclass. For home study classes we are happy to answer occasional questions about course materials via email.

Q: Does the Esoteric School have a waiting list?
Since our courses are not taught on a repeat schedule we are happy to put your names on a waiting list so that we can notify you when that course will be available again. We have a minimum number of students required for each class and start classes as soon as we have enough students. Please join our waiting list and let us know what class you are interested in taking and we will notify you when we are about to start that class.

Q: Does the Esoteric School offer one-on-one classes?
One-on-one classes are decided on a per case basis. Please contact us for more information.
Q: Can you send me a spell to counteract one put on me or for a specific problem I am having?
The Esoteric School does not send spells to people or solve specific problems magically. Our mission is to provide instruction and tools to students so they can do these things for themselves. We do have advanced students who can be contacted for specific issues or help. You may want to look at the services our lead instructor, Alan Joel, offers or Devta Khalsa's site to see what services she has available.

Q: What kind of products do you offer?

Q: Why is the shield only offered as a necklace instead of a ring?
The shield has a flow. When you receive your shield you also receive directions for how to key it. The flow lines used in keying would be interrupted if it were a ring. Also, the pendant and its protective properties were made to cover your heart/chest area. Think of it like this, if you were using a shield would you want it to cover your torso area or one of your fingers?
Q: Can I shower with my shield? Will the soap hurt it?
Absolutely. Water and soap will not harm or diminish your shield in any way. If you notice it has turned black and you have been in a chlorinated body of water you can simply remove the tarnish with silver cleaner.

Shipping and Payment Information
Q: Does the Esoteric School have other means of payment from foreign countries besides credit cards?
We will accept checks and/or money orders provided they are made out in USD (US Dollars). Note that our bank charges a $5 fee to exchange foreign currencies so please include that amount also. Once we have received your check or money order we will send your products as well as an email confirmation and date your purchases were mailed.
Q: How secure is the Esoteric School’s billing system?
We process all payments through a secure SSL server and have never had any security issues. We keep all of your information strictly confidential and secure.
Q: What regulations apply to international shipping of course material?
The shipping regulations are country specific. Please check with your country’s customs department to ascertain the particular regulations.
Q: I have placed an order through the School store when can I expect it?
First check to see if your order is a physical product or in electronic format. If your order was in electronic format you will receive information on how to access the product with a password or receive a PDF file attached within 48 hours of placing your order. If your email system has a Spam filter that only allows you to accept certain emails please add orders@shamanschool.com to your list of accepted addresses or check your junk folder. If you have not received an email with this information within 48 hours email orders@shamanschool.com.
If your order is a physical product and you have paid by credit card you will receive a confirmation through email within 48 hours giving you the date of shipment. Shipping is done through the US Postal service so please allow a reasonable number of days for delivery of a package. Be aware that International orders may require a longer time and may get held up in customs. If you have not received a package within two weeks after date of purchase please email orders@shamanschool.com. If you have opted to pay by check or Money order your product will be shipped after three business days of receipt of funds and you will receive an email confirming shipment.
Q: What types of payments are acceptable?
The teleconference classes offer the option of paying for the full class in advance, paying for half the class at a time in advance, paying quarterly or monthly. If you opt to pay monthly for the class there is a $10 fee added on each month to cover the extra bookkeeping involved. The options available and the exact amount of each options are listed on the registration page for that class. Students may pay for classes by money order, check or credit card. Payments by credit card can be made by secure server on our website by accessing the link on the bottom right hand corner of the front page at that says "Make a Payment", by keeping the credit card on file with the school for the bookkeeper to charge on the due date of current invoice, or by faxing the credit card number and expiration date to 303-265-9189 with a statement of what the payment is and the amount being authorized for charge. We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover cards.
Store orders may also be paid for by Visa, Mastercard, American Express, or Discover credit cards.
Q: Can I make payments on Home Study Courses?
We do have longer courses for which payment can be made in increments. In an effort to help students defray costs we have broken down as many courses as possible into small segments. We suggest you look at taking an Elemental course such as Air, Fire, Water or Earth one at a time, paying for just one element at a time thereby helping to reduce the cost. Technical Support
Q: I am having trouble accessing my download, what should I do?
When you click on the link sent to you in the confirmation email, it should open a window asking you for a user id and password to access the download page.
First make sure you are entering the user id and password information exactly as they appear in the email you received as they are case sensitive.
If you complete this step and are left clicking on the download link and not accessing the file try right clicking the link and choosing the option "save to disk". Notice what folder you are saving the file to and after the download has completed go to that file on your hard drive to open the file. Some browsers automatically download to a temporary internet file first that you must access and then save a copy to your hard drive. If you are using one of these browsers, look for a menu in your browser that says Tool - Downloads or something similar where downloaded materials are stored.
Q: How do I get my log-in and password information if I forget them?
Login and password information is only for teleconference students. If you are a teleconference student and have forgotten your login and password please contact us via our Contact Page.

Q: Why do I have to be 18 years old to attend class?
Unfortunately due to legal restrictions we are only able to sell our course materials to adults, people least 18 years of age. However, we welcome you to peruse and use all the free resources on our website.

Q: Can the Esoteric School’s site be posted to other groups, i.e. yahoo?
We are happy to have our site visitors share the site with others by posting links to the Esoteric School on yahoo and other group sites.
Q: Can I get emails from the Esoteric School if I live in another country?
As long as you are connected to the World Wide Web you certainly can.
Q: I would like to attend classes at a physical school location, do you know of any in my area?
We do not keep a list of esoteric schools. You can check out our resources page to see what other organizations have available. We are not aware currently of any physical location schools that are conducting classes similar to ours and chose our teleconference format so we could serve a wide population.
